How do you find the spectacular landscape of Goreme valley and its rock-hew sanctuaries? Without a doubt, most of you were amazed in the artistic achievement in the unique evidence of Byzantine art in the post-Iconoclastic period.
If you will roam around, you will see an eroded plateau of the Goreme valley. This is a spectacular example of the effects of differential erosion of the volcanic ruff sediments by wind and water. Other features which are typical in the area are the pillars, columns, towers, obelisks and needles.
The villages’ convents and churches retain the fossilized images of a province of the Byzantine Empire. Also you will see excavated network of caves which served as refuges, residences, storage and places of worship by the people who live dating from the 4th century.
To see the valley and its surroundings, you can rent a car or join the tour group. You can also enjoy hiking with guides. But since the terrain is slippery, make sure to wear a proper hiking shoes or boots. And keep in mind that temperatures in the area will rise and fall dramatically throughout the day.
